Points of Reflection
It's the holy week season and I'm stuck at home with the usual reflection of my life.
I was able to watch this animated movie "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron" and it actually made me think about some things. It's such a nice movie and it's very moving even though its from a point of view of a wild stallion.
The story is about the adventures of a stallion whom a native American named Spirit for this Mustang cannot be broken even if you get every single human being to mount him. He's a free spirit...I guess that's the reason why this guy named him so.
This Stallion was born and raised in the wild. When he grew up, he became the leader of their herd and he was a very good leader too. Everyone respects him and no one challenge his leadership. He even defeated a panther who was trying to get two colts for his dinner. He went scampering away when he realize that he couldn't defeat their leader.
But a sudden curiosity led him away from his herd and get captured by men (which he described as the two legged creatures). These men were soldiers from a cavalry and they try to capture wild horses and break them to use them as their mounts. Spirit wouldn't have that. They had cut his hair, added horse shoes to his feet but with all the harness that they put on him to hold him still, he could not be branded...even if there were 20 men holding him down. The best part was when they tried to break him. The head of the fort where he was captured tried everything to break him. Even letting him starve and thirst for three days. Spirit led him to believe that he was already broken when he got tired of banging himself all over the coral when the head tried to break him. The head ended up flying with the saddle on his butt.
Anyway, I can go on and on narrating the whole story but I suggest that you watch it because it's a very touching movie. You will learn so much about life with that movie.
I like the part where he was freeing every single horse that he encountered that's been broken and used for mounts and haulers of heavy loads. Even these broken horses have great respect for Spirit. They look up to him for support and strength much like the way his herd looks up to him. When he wasn't broken by the head of the calvary, all the horses cheered for him then.
Anyway, watching that movie was truly inspiring. A born leader and defender of his kind. He wanted to preserve the beauty of his homeland where he would want to raise his family. I also admire the horse's sense of loyalty. His herd waited for him to come back even if it took so long for him to return. And when he tried to save the Native American, it was really magical.
I had always loved horses. I guess this movie made me love them more. All you have to do is look into it's eyes and you can see an old soul in these magnificent beast.
