My Thoughts....

Allow me to start rambling once more concerning the world and how I see it. I see a lot of problems delving into the mundane, petty problems to world wide catastrophes. Hollywood celebrities in jail or in rehab, political problems of different countries, stupid citizens who voted the wrong people because they promised them something that they will never be able to give, war in Iraq, the threat of North Korea, Kimi Raikkonen not performing well...the list goes on and on...

I could dive into one topic and I could write my random thoughts about that. But I would like to voice out my concern over one issue that's close to my heart. The environment.

I was walking in SM Shoemart Makati on my way home when I came across a booth that promotes the environment...the SM "Green Bag". Buy a particular product and you can take home an environment friendly bag. Hmp...

Now, it occurred to me that Global Warming is taking place and this time, people all over the world are feeling the effects. Polar Ice caps melting, countries sinking, lack of water, increase in oil prices...etc. These are the effects of Global Warming. Now, I really don't mind that people now are aware of the situation and there are already different ways and measures being placed so as not to make it worse. But I can't stop but think and be a little annoyed at what's been happening. I want to scream at the top of my lungs and say "OH, NOW YOU START TO CARE? NOW YOU START TO SEE THE PROBLEM AT HAND! NOW YOU BECOME ENVIRONMENTALISTS AND TELL THE WORLD THAT YOU CARE! WHERE WERE YOU 10 YEARS AGO WHEN IT WAS JUST AN IDEA OF A THREAT? WHERE WERE YOU WHEN SCIENTISTS AND REAL ENVIRONMENTALISTS TOLD YOU THAT WE HAVE A PROBLEM? WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING WHEN THE OZONE LAYER'S HOLE WAS SMALL? WHERE YOU ALREADY MAKING STEPS TO PREVENT THIS FROM GETTING WORSE? WHERE WERE YOU WHEN MOTHER NATURE WAS TRYING TO TELL YOU SOMETHING WAS UP? ARE YOU REALLY THERE FOR HER OR ARE YOU JUST MAKING MONEY OUT OF WHAT'S HAPPENING?"

I'm really annoyed. A simple thing as garbage segregation needed to become a law first before its being implemented. Tree planting have to be a huge all star cast of favorite celebrities for someone to join in. No one took it seriously unless it's a big event that your favorite telenovela star would be in attendance and would promote these things before you do something about it. Why do we always have to wait for the last minute before we actually do something good? Why do we have to wait for it to be sensationalized before we step up and do our part? Why do we have to wait for our oceans to die before we create reservations? Are we going to wait to wear gas masks when we go out of the house for us to see what's happening to our world? Will we let our children not experience the thrill of climbing trees, rolling in grass, swimming in beaches because there none of them left in the world? Have you seen a firefly lately? Or a dragonfly? Or even a butterfly in your neighborhood? Will your kids only see them in picturebooks?

I have friends who have kids, and are pregnant and I wonder what would they have when they grow up? The kids of this generation and the generations to come won't experience drinking water from a faucet. Kids today won't experience playing in the rain because the rain water has become too acidic because of the smog. Kids of tomorrow won't enjoy looking at the sky at night to watch the stars because it would be too polluted. Kids of tomorrow won't enjoy playing under the sun because of radiation.

How many virgin rain forest do we have left? How many endangered species become extinct? Do you know the extent of the damage you've done to mother earth? Are you aware now?

Of course you are! Media has a hand in that! Business would see to it that you're aware! These days everything is environment friendly! From clothes, to gadgets, to food, to vehicles! Everything is about the environment these days! And businesses are reeking in the bucks because of it. New inventions that are environment friendly are being sold left and right. Fast foods have changed packaging. Search for an alternative source of energy is being done. Even beauty pageants are joining in the band wagon! But I ask again. Where were you all those years ago when the world was fairly healthy? Did you ever stop and think before this environment friendly frenzy started? Do we really have to wait to be told what to do before we actually do it?

Our world is dying and we only waited no to help.

Be ashamed. You never stopped and thought of your kids. You never saw what the repercussions were.

Be ashamed that you have to wait for a movie documentary to come out before you do something. Even then, you never stopped and think.

Be ashamed. Be very ashamed.
