So my Training Begins

After the initial shock of my older brother leaving the country, I have to face reality that we need to keep things together at home and work together so that we won't have any problems.

One of the main things that I really need to learn now that my older brother isn't here to pick us up or take us anywhere we need to go is for me to learn how to drive. Now that my brother is away, we have to help each other and try to do additional chores that was used to be his. among those chores was driving.

I started yesterday...But it took a long process...

Yesterday, before I went for my monthly check-up with my doctor, my sister and I went to the local LTO and got ourself a non-pro. It wasn't that hard. Didn't take us that loon gtoo. and there was this "nice" LOT officer that helped us out willingly...of course she was compensated for it (don't get me wrong, I could have gotten the license on my own but the officer insited. We didn't even know that she was "helping" until she charged us P750 for our licenses each). Anyway, I got what I wished for, restriction 1 and 2 and I can drive without my younger brother anymore.

Anyway, I got my license and thankfully I got my wish of having a restriction 1 and 2. That means, I can drive any private vehicles and a motorcyle. =)

So, that said, I finally got my license and that same day, I used it to go around Las PiƱas. It was both a scary and fulfiling experience for me. For someone who doesn't have a formal training in learning how to drive, I remembered all the things my older brother taught me. And thank goodness I didn't have any accidents. So, going to my doctor in Town Center, I drove without my younger brother. Driving was pretty simple but parking is another thing. My one problem is parking. I CAN'T PARK!!! Going to SM to supposedly watch a movie was the same thing. I didn't have a problem getting there, I just had a problem parking. But I did manage to park. All I did was find a parking space where I didn't have to turn and park...just move forward with the parking space right in front of you...perfect parking. =D

My first drive in the highway was this morning. For my very first driving experience in the highway, I did pretty well though of course I need to practice, practice, practice. My first drive in the highway was in the wet, dark, rainy and slippery road. I could feel the car dancing beneath me as I try to wrestle with the steering while trying to keep the speed in between 60 - 80 kph. Did some overtaking, forgot that the toll was supposed to be paid on the other side and not the first toll you get to, and forgot to slow down in the bumpy sides of the road. And there was the typhoon. So, for someone who drove the highway just this morning, I think I did pretty okay. But yes, I admit that I really needed all the training I can get.

I won't stop driving around in the morning during my day off. It's the best way to learn how to drive in the highway. And here's hoping before Christmas comes, I'll be able to bring the car to work...and back. ;)
