My Brush With Death

I and some of my officemates had a little scare yesterday.

We went to Tarlac Saturday morning to and were guests during a Gunbound Tournament there. I wouldn't go into detail about that but we had fun and we were well taken care of the by organizers. Unfortunately, the event ended at 1am... we weren't able to go home to Manila. We spent the night at an MAR (Mobius Area Representative) house in Bulacan.

The next day, we left around 6am and was heading back to Manila. We rode a van that would take us from Bulacan to the MRT station. All was well. All of us were really tired so some of us decided to fall asleep in the vehicle. We were going 80 - 100kph at that time.

There was a sudden jolt from the van that woke us up. And then came a screeching sound and the van began to shake really hard and we started going sideways to our right. We all braced ourselves for any kind of impact. All of us feared that the van would turn over. The driver steered left and slowed us down to a stop. Everyone got down on the van, bodies shaking from the little scare to find out what happened.

It turned out that the van's right rear wheel's threads got stuck at the axle so the rear wheel wasn't moving at all. Hence the screeching sound that we've heard. It was really a good thing the driver steered left instead of right because the van would have turned over and we would be in a major accident.

When my friend ask the driver what made him turn left, all he said was there was a car on our right side that's why he wasn't able to turn right, so he turned left instead. Miracle of miracles. If that car wasn't there, the driver would have turned right and the van would really have turned over...then I wouldn't be here right now typing this all down.

My friends (Jobert, Joms, Ethel and Jonathan) and I were really lucky that time. We were all tired and lack sleep but after that incident, when the next van arrived to take us to Manila, we were all wide awake. We really couldn't sleep anymore until we got home.

We were all lucky that time. I'm just thankful right now that I still get a chance to share it to everyone.
