Stupidity at its Finest

I think it was around 3 weeks ago when I got to watch half of the Oprah show guest starred Pink and they discussed about her latest single "Stupid Girl". And it was really some discussion. I was angry at myself for not remembering until the last minute.

Anyway, I never really paid much attention to it until I realized that it was also happening here in our country. And I thought Americans were the only stupid people (again, generalizing...the only people who should be affected are the people who should be affected).

Anyway, this got me to actually look at my own backyard and check out if it was indeed happening here as well and sure enough I was right. A lot of girls today emulate a lot of celebrities with not just the way they look and present themselves but also with how they act. For some strange reason it was embedded in the woman's psyche that she could get ahead in life if she acts dumb yet flirty. A lot of girls today even starting at a very young age of eight have already been grilled that its more important to be beautiful than to be smart. Girls at a tender age of 8, already have this notion that it's good to be dumb just as long as you're beautiful. It's really scary. Young women today spend money buying clothes that would either show more skin or cut out your air circulation. Women as young as ten, would spend more time with their hair and make up then reading a good book or studying. Girls at a very young age would already be thinking about boys and sex. Looks will always be a priority to them than anything else.

At this day and age, having a 24 inch waistline isn't cool anymore. It has to be smaller, otherwise you're not cool. At this day and age, to be a girl, you need to know how to flirt your way to pass exams, to be heard in meetings or just get away with a mistake you've made. A lot of women today play the "dumb" card just to get what they want. Honestly, that's really so sad in today's world.

As stated in Oprah, men aren't the only chauvanist pigs anymore. Aparently, women are stepping in and actually admitting to that fact. In a place where men dominate, the only way a girl like me can move ahead is for me to act like a piece of meat or be treated like one. And it's actually scary to see taht a lot of women today are doing just that to get what they want. Smart women need to degrade themselves, act dumb or stupid so men with big egos tend to give way. Or it would be the only way men would actually take notice.

It's actually sad to see girls around the age of 10-18 look up to women who act stupid or dumb just to get ahead. International celebrities would rather do the "dumb blond" act just so that they can keep the prestige that they have. Unfortunately, kids these days tend to follow them. Kids these days particularly girls, see that their female role models act dumb, so they tend to act dumb as well. They think it's cool to flirt your way up the ladder.

It's a vicious cycle. One that I wish to stop. It's really degrading and insulting for women of all ages that we have to stoop so low just to get noticed. And what's really hurtful is that today's media isn't really giving us any other choice in the matter.

In Oprah, Pink ask the audience to give out 5 female celebrities today on the top of their head who are smart...I joined in and could only think of 2 in this generation...Angelina Jolie and Sandra Bullock (though, they're not even in our generation per se since they're around their late 30's or early 40's)...others would be Dame Maggie Smith, Dame Julie Andrews, Susan Sarandon, Stockard Channing and Glenn Close just to name a few which shouldn't really be in my list because well...their not really that young any more. Now isn't it scary to see that I can't think of any girls of our generation who I think are smart?

I even tried thinking of local women who are smart...and I can't think of any...not one! Okay...maybe it's because I don't really pay much attention to the local movie industry but there has to be at least one that would stand out but I really can't think of any! It's really sad that the women of today are being emulated by kids who thinks very highly of them.

I really feel sorry for the teens of today and the teens of tomorrow. Today's MTV generation isn't the kind of futute leaders that our ancestors were wishing. I see kids today with no knowledge of how things run or how life should be lived because the media keeps on feeding them with subliminal messages that can destroy them in the long run. It's sad and it's got to stop.

Would you really want to be known as a "dumb blond" all your life? Would you really rather move ahead just because you flirted with your boss or worse slept with him? Would you actually teach your daughter that to get ahead you don't need to be smart? Would you really want to hide your true self just because you're not following what the media thinks is right? Would you keep your potential just because you're not a man? Would you be one of those "Stupid Girls" Pink was singing about?
