"Ken, what do you see beyond your fist?" - Street Fighter II Movie
This is a phrase taken from Street Fighter 2 the movie. No! Not that stupid excuse of a movie with Van Dam! The anime one where Bison kidnapped Ken, brainwashed him to fight against Ryu. That movie where you see Ryu rock climbing without gear and only used his bare hands and meeting E. Honda at the top.
Anyway, back to the quote...
People these days lack vision. All they see nowadays are the here and now and they can't seem to see passed that. Content to be where they are, not thinking of the bigger picture. I see it a lot in kids these days where they do not make the effort to be someone else and just be contented with what they have right now, however miserable they are.
I actually pity them. They're people who are afraid to take risks and try something new. They are the ones who are contented to just look at their fist and not beyond it. Not wanting to take the plunge and see what happens if ever something good actually turned up.
Risk. Something a lot of people are afraid to do these days. People who are afraid of losing their jobs even though they're not happy anymore. People not standing up to what they believe in becuase they are afraid of what others might think. People not accepting other people's ideas because they don't want to change what they are accustomed to. People who just gave up becaue they think that nothing will happen if they try to do something. They forget that nothing will be done to improve a situation if they don't take the risk. They forget that it doesn't only take faith to make things happen. We have to move as well.
It's really not bad to look ahead. To take the plunge. To take risk every now and then so that life will be better. Why content yourself to the here and now when you can do more if you look beyond the usual? Why content yourself to being miserable when you can do more things in your life if you try to look ahead and take a step forward? Why be satisfied with just looking at your fist when there's a whole world out there ready to be explored, ready to be taken if you only give it an opportunity? Why be contented when you know that you can do more with your life?
I'm not saying that looking beyond and taking a risk is all well and good. There are times that when looking ahead and miscalculating, you might end up with nothing. But then, what's a risk if you don't see any downside to it.
I had my few shares of looking beyond my fist. Got into trouble every now and then too but then it's the risk I took for looking ahead. It's my way of attempting to see the bigger picture. I had clashed ideas with people around me because of the risks that I have taken. Lost people's friendships but gained new and better ones.
The important thing is to have vision. Look beyond the usual. Search for better things. Look ahead. Look at the bigger picture in life. Take risks. See yourself in ways you have never thought you could actually do. Go beyond the conventions that you were so used to. See what you can see beyond your fist.
Ask yourself now, what do you see beyond your fist?
