Thinking that it was going to be like the last elections where I only really spent around 15 minutes inside the precinct and another 30 minutes walking to and from the school where I was going to vote, it shocked me when I saw a long line forming outside of the school. Although I was lucky enough to spend only a total of two hours with everything (going there, falling in line, voting and going home), it was still different from my usual election day experience.
The traffic going to the school was the same as always. The big difference this year was really the long line that started from inside the school and ended at the corner of the street. And because I thought that I would only be staying there for a few minutes, I didn't bring anything to pass the time like my Nano or my PSP. I didn't even bring a book. So when I was in line, that was the thing that was really bothering me, what am I going to do to pass the time as I wait "patiently" for the line to move? Good thing there was someone in line with me that was talkative so I was doing small talk...until there was a lady who told us to just go inside and fall in line from inside. Once inside, the craziness of the line outside was even crazier inside. Inside the school, the lines weren't clear so it was easy to squeeze our way towards the right line and cut my "falling in line time" in half. Inside the school, it was quicker. Our room was called and once we were upstairs it went smooth sailing from there.
Like I said, I got lucky. I was in, out and back at home in two hours. I had to walk back home since I didn't ask my younger brother to wait for me because of the traffic in the area.
The new system was really okay. Maybe in the next election, the lines wouldn't be that long anymore and the craziness inside the area wouldn't be as crazy. But the system did work even though some machines didn't. Like I said, nothing is really perfect even if we willed it to.
