The political circus of my country started as early as May last year. I have seen ads left and right trying to convince people consciously and unconsciously who to vote this coming May 10.
I'm honestly sick and tired of watching those ads. I hate watching them on TV. I hate listening to them on the radio (although I don't really listen to the radio anymore, there are jeeps, FX and buses that does them). I hate hearing their jingle being played disturbing my sleep early in the morning or disturbing the peace in the afternoon. I hate seeing their faces plastered left and right on billboards and walls and tarps attached to public transportation. I hate being invited to be a fan of a particular political party. And I most especially hate getting forwarded emails endorsing some politician while saying something bad stuff about other candidates. I hate the black propaganda. I honestly hate everything about this circus.
I saw a blog entry via facebook from my friend Becca enumerating her criteria on who she will be voting this May 10 elections. Good for her. She has a lot of good points and I value her opinions very much that those criteria helped me a lot in choosing who I will be voting.
So taking note of the things I hate about this election period, for sure I will not be voting the top 2 candidates in the surveys who bombards all forms of media with their ads and propaganda. Clearly, the main reason for them leading is that the public is already saturated with them that it would either be one or the other whenever people would ask them who they will be voting for this elections (See baby James). I will not be voting for those people who thinks that the only way to win is for them to forget the reason they want to rule a country and just attack each other with issues that isn't even related to their platform. I mean, why would I vote for someone who uses the media to answer certain issues that is being thrown at him and not in the proper "arena" for it? Why would I vote for someone who instead of focusing on the issues that they would be facing when they are already in the position, they would attack another candidate concerning their characters? Why would I choose candidates who for the life of me, I watch their ads everyday and I still don't know what they plan on doing when they're in position?
The black propaganda spreading across the net isn't helping as well. There are these supposed newspaper clippings form leading newspapers like Star, Philippine Daily Inquirer and Business World, explaining that this certain candidate is my preferred because the other candidates are this and that...but none explaining their platforms. These things just tell me that this is better than that because he came from this or he was born from that and he knows what he's talking about. But the proof is no where to be found.
Frankly, I don't really care where the candidate came from. Whether he/she/it came from a political, religious, or whatever background they might have, I really couldn't care less. I mean, the current president came from a very good family background but look at her now. So, for me, to hell with the family background. I don't care if you came from a rich family or from the poor or if you even came from another planet or just popped out of a zit somewhere. What I care about is if you will be able to handle the pressures of being the head of state and if you would be able to keep your promise of ending corruption and see to the progress of this country (which technically is what EVERY SINGLE CANDIDATE RIGHT NOW IS PROMISING US). But I ask, how will you do it? Will you wave a magic wand and poof everything wrong about this country would disappear? Will you sweet talk us and tell us we're on the right track but in reality you're driving us off the cliff? Will you really be firm and help us out of this hell hole? Will you be another dictator? Will you be a kind president but don't really have any idea how to run a country and would leave your advisers to do the work for you? Will you really analyze and figure out what this country really needs?
How are you going to get us out of this predicament?
Every single candidate has acknowledged that the current government is corrupt but all I hear is that they will get rid of corruption but I have never heard, read or seen how they will be able to do it.
So, my vote will be to the person with the "how". Someone who really talks about the issue and would like to get a chance to see what he can do about it. So to that candidate, I hope my one vote for you would help this May 10.
