Bombings....

"No one is innocent while war is on going." - Gundam Seed

Yesterday, I picked up my sister at her office and went home. Amazingly for Valentines, South Super Highway wasn't jam packed at all! Now I know the reason why.

Last night there was a bombing in Edsa/Ayala. It was really a shock to me to find out that it was really near my workplace and the exact route I usually take when I go home. And when the newscaster announced the time of the bombing, I'm just happy that I was okay because that is the time I usually go home, and since it's a Monday, I would be commuting, hence I would have taken the bus. I was lucky. Unfortunately, others weren't.

This got me thinking. And the above sentence from Gundam Seed came to my mind. It was actually said by Athurun Zala. It was right after the time he claimed his then fiancee Lacus Klein from the Earth Forces. It was a discussion that there are no innocent people while there is a war. Everyone has to take a side, everyone has to fight for different reasons: survival, power, money or protection.

No one is innocent. That must be what the Abu Sayaff is thinking when they bombed the different cities killing out more than 50 people. Everyone is waging war, whether they like it or not.

No one is safe while there are terrorists. Everyone has to be at their toes because the next bombing might be right at your doorstep.

Is this the kind of life we want our children to live? A world where we do not feel safe once we go out of the confines of our homes. A place where we have to watch our back all the time because we may never know who will be there to stab us at the back.

We're not innocent. Even if we stay neutral we still get affected by what's happening around us. And honestly, we can't do anything about it. We just watch and see what other people can do. But are we innocent? No, we take sides, we cheer on to those who we think is right. We're not innocent as we claim to be. We might be civilians but we take a stand on the group we support. And because of it, we aren't innocent in the war.

Terrorism. Something that we have been trying to stop especially during Pres. Arroyo's reign. Negotiations have been done multiple times already but no one seems to be listening on both sides. And even though I still believe that "war" is not the answer, I really don't see any other choice in the matter. But I'm honestly afraid of the consequences it might bring.

We chose a side. We're not innocent. The bombing last night confirmed it all.

And all I can do is pray for the safety of everyone. There is nothing I can do but that. But if we think that we are just innocent by standers, think again. No one is innocent while war is ongoing.
