I wasn't really expecting him to win the title this year, especially with Brawn having a very good start of the season. But I had been praying that Kimi would at least have a decent race this season and that he would be in a point scoring car. My one prayer for him is that he would have a higher standing than Lewis Hamilton. And he finally managed it by winning the last race.
It's a struggle with him and the team this season. With Massa out for the rest of the season (though he hopes to return in Brazil for the last race), Kimi's new team mate, Badoer, is struggling to get into grips with the car and trying to forget that he's no longer a test driver but an F1 driver racing for points. It's technically a one man show in Ferrari and for two races Kimi has been doing his best to get points for the team even with a car that still needs a lot of modifications before you could say that it's a winning car once more.
Yesterday's race was really heart stopping for me. But Kimi did everything right and overtook 4 cars at the start to get from 6th place to 2nd. And with the help of the safety car because of a collision in the first lap, he was able to overtook Fisi. The struggle was to keep Fisi behind all the way to the checkered flag. It wasn't as easy as it looked being that Fisi had kept up the pace with only a .8 of a second to 1.1 second separating the two cars. But in the end, Kimi kept his head down and won his first ever race of the season. I was honestly, holding my breath throughout the race because there were times when I though Fisi would successfully overtake Kimi. The pit-stop was also heart-stopping since both Kimi and Fisi pitted at the same time in two occasions. But it did prove to everyone that Kimi is still a talented and skillful driver who keeps his cool and delivers well.
There's about five races left in the season. And I truly hope that Kimi would use that to get as much point as he can to get up there in the driver's standing. Though I know he won't be world champion by the end of the season, he'll be up there with the rest of the greats.
He's not World Champion this season, but I will continue to cheer him on to get good results each and everytime until the end of the season.
